Falwell Says Pagans Caused
the Attack on the World Trade Center

Now we know whom to blame for the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center:   Pagans (among others).   Yes, Jerry Falwell, the foaming-at-the-mouth self-righteous Christmonger who stole the PTL Club from Jim and Tammy Baker, said on national television, "I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen.'"   According to Falwell, the people in whose faces he was pointing his finger are Pagans, "abortionists," "feminists" (a feminist being any female who rejects the women-as-slaves-scrubbing-the-floors-on-their-hands-and-knees role model preached by Jerry), gays, and lesbians.

Later, after a White House spokesman contacted Falwell and told him his remarks were inappropriate, he publicly apologized.   My response to his apology?   Too little, too late.   Jerry, you are the opposite of what America stands for.   And you are a disgrace to Jesus Christ.

Honest to Goddess, when I heard about Falwell's remarks, my very first thought was:
At last, the banjo boy from "Deliverance" has somebody he can look down on with scorn.

NOTE: Brother Falwell passed into the great beyond in May 2007.   If he didn't believe in life after death, he does now.

"There are people in each religion who hold their beliefs in a tightfisted way as if it were the only thing that could be true.   There are also people in each religious tradition who hold their beliefs in an open-handed way, an invitational way, making their faith part of a complex and multireligious world."

          — Diana Eck in ''A New Religious America''

Pat Robertson Speaks

Not all Christians are fools ... but you wouldn't know it by listening to Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson.

On August 23, 2005, televangelist Pat Robertson had this to say on "The 700 Club:"

"We have the ability to take him out ["him" being Hugo Chavez, the democratically-elected president of Venezuela], and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another 200-billion-dollar war [bullshit! Wars aren't that cheap] to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

I guess Pat Robertson should wear a T-shirt that says "WWJA?" (Whom Would Jesus Assassinate?).
