The Six of Pentacles tarot card from the Universal Waite deck

1.   Measured generosity; giving only as much as the recipient needs (or is capable of receiving).

2.   A situation which rewards you only enough that it keeps you from looking elsewhere for satisfaction   —   a humdrum marriage, or a job that's "barely good enough."

COMMENTS:

This isn't the same as "Six of Cups"-type generosity.   It is more restrained and conservative, and less self-sacrificing.

With one hand, he's giving out a gift; but he weighed it first with the scales that are in his other hand.   Perhaps he expects to be paid back.

There are seven cards in the Rider deck that show a large, dominant figure "presiding" over two smaller figures standing below it (forming a triangle of sorts):
The Hierophant
The Lovers
The Chariot
The Devil
The Moon
Two of Cups
Six of Pentacles
